SIMmersion LLC - Flash/Actionscript 3 Developer

Columbia, Maryland · January 2010 - January 2012

Summary: Working as their content delivery expert via the creation front end interfaces, I improved internal development efficiencies by developing new content development standards and practices.

  • Objective: When arriving at SIMmersion, they were producing static content and had no way of implementing dynamic data within their e-learning systems. Tasked with a massive project and set of e-learning content for JAG officers which was constantly changing, we needed a way to dynamically implement the content changes for review and final delivery.
  • Solution: I programmed a system utilizing Flash, Actionscript 3 and xml that automated the implementation of e-learning content. Using our in-house CMS and various web services, we enabled SMEs to develop and publish content to our Flash front end.
  • Results: This system resulted in huge internal time and cost savings and allowed myself time to work on more complex tasks.

Other Accomplishments:

  • Created upgrade for company website based off pre-existing wireframes and copydeck.
  • Worked with a variety of CMS solutions while assisting in developing our in-house CMS solution
  • Produced web, application, sales, and promotional graphics utilizing the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Modeled 3D environments for use as content delivery platforms using 3D Studio Max, Second Life, OpenSim, and Unreal Development Kit.

Intelligrated Inc. (formerly FKI Logistex) - Web/Simulation/Emulation Developer

Frederick, Maryland · January 2007 - December 2009

Summary: Working as an emulation engineer within the Controls Engineering Group, I produced virtual tools which enabled other programmers to write code more efficiently.

  • Objective: Installing and debugging the control software on site took a large amount of time and money, as the Controls Engineers had no way of testing their code out before arriving on-site. The Controls Engineers used to spend months out in the field debugging their code.
  • Soltuion: Using Automod and programming in C, as well as Automod's proprietary language, I produced computer-based emulations of the specific loop sorter system which was currently being installed on site, which allowed the Software Controls Engineers to plug their code into the emulation via PLC (programmable logic controllers) connections and test out their code in-house before deploying it out to the field.
  • Results: The engineers reduced their field time from months to weeks. It was a win-win situation; I had a challenging job, the Controls Engineers got to spend more time with their families, and my company saved thousands of dollars and man hours by reducing field time, as well as procurement time.

Other Accomplishments:

  • Developed multimedia and e-learning content to assist in internal training and software development
  • Utilized 3D modeling capability to create visualizations for use as sales presentation content
  • Managed the completion and delivery of our LCMS (PACE) and e-learning courseware to Target distribution centers and department stores

FKI Logistex Learning Services (formerly Logilearn) - Web/Multimedia Developer

Telecommuting /Frederick, Maryland · July 2004 - December 2006

Summary: Working with multimedia and web development disciplines, I designed and developed various forms of content and web designs for B2B e-learning solutions.

  • Objective: Develop a SCORM compliant body of content that subsidizes a GED knowledge base for use as training within Target Department stores which is deliverable through our generation two LCMS (Learning Content Management System), PACE.
  • Solution: Using Flash MX, Actionscript 2, xml and 3D Studio Max, I developed a massive body of content for use within our PACE e-learning system that provided knowledge on everything from the Basics of Electricity to the Basics of Electronics, from PLC (programmable logic controllers) controls to computer systems, from basic HVAC knowledge to the basics of mathematics.
  • Results: This enterprise solution has been used by thousands of people within Target and is continually used on a daily basis within their department stores and throughout the Target enterprise. This content was also bought by other clients such as Wal-Mart, Amazon, CVS, etc.

Other Accomplishments:

  • Created 3D visualizations and animations in order to support our sister companies' sales and training initiatives
  • Implemented coding standards and data exchange principles via an XML data structure and our Learning Content Management System
  • Produced regression testing software for the PACE e-learning client by writing Visual Basic code within the TestComplete environment

Logilearn - New Media/Web Developer

Baltimore, Maryland · November 2000 - June 2004

Summary: Hired into Logilearn(a startup company from Denmark) out of college, I became their content development champion and developed a variety of content, from Flash assets to 3D models.

  • Objective: Develop two bodies of content for our e-learning Content Management System, ACE (Active Content Engine), one body which teaches mechanics and installers how to maintain and install the Crisplant loop sorter system and one body which teaches mechanics and installers how to maintain and install our sister companies' machinery (conveyor systems and line sorters).
  • Solution: Utilizing Flash 5 and MX, AS1 and AS2, xml and 3D Studio Max, I produced hundreds of e-learning assets based around a knowledge base from a variety of Subject Matter Experts pertaining to our parent company's technology .
  • Results: The first body of e-learning content is still used by hundreds of users within the Target corporation, as well as many other clients, as part of a program to expidite training within the distribution centers. The second body of content is used within the distribution centers of clients like Target, Wal-Mart, Amazon, and many others, and is still used today as part of an integrated training program for new mechanics and installers. This content has drastically reduced training time with the availabilty of on-demand training.

Other Accomplishments:

  • Explored the use of, and developed 3d models for use as e-learning content using 3D Studio Max
  • Created public website and maintained updates by implementing consistent design and coding principles for use as collaborative website standards
  • Played major role in developing Logilearn from a Danish startup company, to a major player in the material handling e-learning industry, to corporate acquisition
